Lack of writing

Sorry I haven't written anything the last couple of days.  I guess I'm like everyone else.  I'm trying to get my house back together after celebrating Christmas.  I hope everyone had a nice Christmas and will have any even better New Year.  I will be back later and will show you some pictures of my Christmas and of my family.  Happy New Year!!!

Here in Alabama we have gotten 2-3" of snow. It's really hard to believe. So I'm gonna post alot of pictures for everyone to see. Let me know if you had snow or not and how much.

These are pictures I took outside the back door of my Mom and Dad's house.  Their large deck was just right for a great picture.

White Christmas

We woke up to about 2"-3" of snow here in Alabama. That is really rare for us and even more rare for it to happen on Christmas day. I may never see another white Christmas.

I got up to let my dogs outside and was like "WOW" it snowed. I was kinda excited about it. Our dogs, Shug and Daisy, didn't know what to think about it. Shug tried to eat it and didn't know whether

he could step in it or not. Daisy ran on down the steps and started playing like it wasn't even there. They were really funny.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and hope that everyone got what they wanted. I know I did.

Snow?

We don't get alot of snow here in the big state of Alabama so when there is even a hint of the white stuff we hit the grocery store and buy up every gallon of milk and loaf of bread. I'm sitting here watching TV and schools are already closing and people seem that they are panicking. I never really understood the milk and bread thing though. If it snows or gets icy I will let you know.
I've been working on some knitting and it's going pretty well. I'll get some pictures together and post them later. I've got to buy some batteries for my camera. I wonder if there's any batteries left? If everyone is buying milk and bread do you think they have bought up all the batteries too? Oh well, I'll see.

Starting the Day

I got up at 5AM this morning. I'm not sure why. I got up and let the dogs out and I got some knitting done. Around 7:30AM I went back to bed and slept until 8:30AM. I did put the dishes in the dishwasher and folded some towels. Now I'm sitting on the couch catching up on my emails and blogging. Other than that, that may be all I get done today.

Michael, my husband, will be coming home from Nashville today and I'm looking forward to that. I hope I can get him to go shopping with me and finish up my Christmas.

Hope to get up and actually do something today would be nice, but I just don't know.

A Proud Mother

I guess all my years of talking about being thrifty and thrift store shopping has finally paid off.  I was thrown off my feet when, Coty, my oldest son, told me that he wanted me to take hime Thrift Store shopping!!!! Yes! You heard right.  I've won!!!

Last night I had visited my mom and dad and when I returned home Coty is sitting at the computer listening to music.  I took off down the hall and about midway I heard, "Mom!".  As usual I kinda ignored him, but he insisted that I come to hear what he had to say. "Mom whatcha doin' on Saturday?"  "Nothin",  I replied.  Well, will you take me to the Thrift stores?  What??  Did I hear him correctly? I asked again before I got my hopes up.  Maybe I heard him wrong.  I am getting older.  Almost 50 you know.  But I was right.  He wants me his loving mother, who bore him from my loins, had come over to my side.  He'll be 24yrs. old on Chistmas Day and it had finally came to fruition.  He wants to go shopping for a twead jacket.  I think he's into the vintage look for himself.  He likes Mad Men and I think that's where he's getting his style.

Who cares I can't wait until Saturday.  We're going thrift store shopping!

Imagine the state I'll be in when I get him to go to yard sales. Those who know me know that it's just a matter of time.

Dogs!!!

We have 3 dogs that stay inside and sometimes the two largest, Daisy, the Mastiff and Shug, the Boxer, try my patience.  They are ONLY 75lbs. and 50lbs. and they're sitting on the couch with me and our Pug, Scooter.  Scooter and I are trying to blog and it's like having two very unruly children playing and they won't mind me half the time.  If my blog doesn't read well it's because I'm fighting the dogs off and trying to keep them off my laptop. Daisy hates it when she's not the center of  attention.  She'll put her paw on my laptop and she has been known to completely erase my writing for the morning.  I do have to remember they are only 7mths. and 1yr. old. Calm is not something that I can have in my house.  I just want to run away some times as long as I don't have to take the dogs. Look at the pictures below and you can see my dilemma.
                                                               "Shug"
"Daisy"
I know they look so sweet.  But, trust me they are angels when they're sleeping and can be little devils when they're awake.

Trip to Birmingham

Yesterday I went to Birmingham with my son, Coty, to go to a job interview. He was a little nervous and I just went along to go shopping.
We did go to the mall at Hoover, but there just wasn't anything I just had to have. All I kept thinking was most of the people walking around spending money seemed really "stuff" oriented. But, all I was thinking about was all I wanted for Christmas was my sister and brother. They both passed away in the last year and suddenly I've become the oldest child. That's a place I never thought that I would end up. It's really been hard. I'm trying to get my mom to get out and try to go on. If any of you out there have lost loved ones you know it's something you really don't ever get over. If your reading this I wish you a very Merry Christmas and think how precious it is to have all of your loved ones present with you at this holiday season.

Super Sunday!

Today was a good day.  We have Fellowship Sunday at church on the 1st of each month.  We all really enjoy that because it let's everyone fix that one great dish.  I made Banana Puddin'.  In the South this is the queen of desserts.  I didn't think about taking a picture of it before we all bailed into it.  It still looks good though.

I posted the recipe below.  It's on all boxes of Nilla Wafers.  Try it once you're hooked.
  • One box of Nilla Wafers or Vanilla Wafers
  • 1 cup of Sugar
  • 2 cups of Milk
  • 1 tsp. of vanilla flavoring
  • 2 Tbsp. of flour
  • 4 egg yolks(reserve the egg whites for the meringue)
  • 3 ripe bananas
Mix together sugar, egg yolks, flour and milk.  Stir over medium heat until boiling.  Remove from heat.  Add vanilla.
Layer bottom of two quart dish with Nilla Wafers.  Top with sliced bananas.  Pour half of the pudding over top.  Repeat second layer.
Take the reserved egg whites and add a couple tablespoons of sugar and a teaspoon of vanilla.  Beat with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form.  Spread this over the pudding and put it into a 400 degree oven until the meringue is lightly browned.

Yard Sales on Thursday?

I went to a yard sale on Thursday that really, technically wasn't a yard sale.  It was inside in a huge building.  I'm really not fond of indoor yard sales because you never know what's  inside.  First thought I had was, "Do I really want to get out and go in"?  I was by myself because my  trusty friend Jennifer had to work. We always travel together.

I got out of my car knowing I had nothing that I could use as a weapon.  But, I thought, what if that one thing  I just had to have was in there.  So I turned the door knob and as I slowly entered I noticed that there wasn't much light. In the distance I saw a figure that resembled a person. Suddenly I heard somone say, "Hi, come on in".  I let out a resounding sigh and knew I had hit the mother load.  Inside was a lot of stuff that didn't really look like much, but I could tell there must be a hoader living here and she and I were seeing eye to eye on what's important in life.  STUFF!!!
    .
After looking through stacks of stuff and tables full I purchased a 1980's Strawberry Shortcake Christmas Tree for $1.50.  I kinda have the "eye" for searching for that diamond in the rough.  I also bought a Strawberry Shortcake Salt and Pepper shaker for $1.50.  As I left with items in hand  I couldn't wait until I got home and looked it up on Ebay.  I like to do my research before I post it for sale.
Well, I didn't get that million dollar item, but I did find out that the Christmas Tree went for $8.99. It's not that million dollar item, but it's mine.

Estate Sale

I went to an Estate Auction today and picked up some really cool Avon jewelry.  Also, got an Avon Wheel of Fortune clock.  I had never seen one and I got it for $1.  One sold on Ebay for $22.95.  I hope I get that for much for mine.  I also picked up some pins that I'm hoping to recraft into something wearable.
There again keep pushing me to create that one of a kind necklace. I may be going to some yard sales in the morning and I will keep you posted on what I find.
